We all know that there’s nothing quite like stepping into a garden that’s been freshly mulched. The look, the smell, the promise of what’s to come. At Equigrow, we take mulching seriously — and our Fertile Mulch is something we’re incredibly proud of.
Whether you’re planting up a tiny urban courtyard, maintaining a country estate, or designing show gardens for the likes of RHS Chelsea, the quality of your mulch really matters. It’s not just about keeping weeds down — it’s about feeding the soil, locking in moisture, and giving your garden that polished, professional finish. And ours? Well, let’s just say it’s earned some serious fans.
The Mulch Behind Award-Winning Gardens
This year, our Fertile Mulch was used in Manoj Malde’s stunning RHS Chelsea 2025 Tackle HIV Stigma Garden — a show garden that proudly took home a silver award. It was built by the talented Elohim Tisserand and his team at Tisserand English Gardens. Elohim (or Els, as most know him) is a huge fan of our mulch and uses it regularly in his gardens. It’s always a joy to see our products play a part in such meaningful and beautiful work.
Why Our Fertile Mulch Is Different
So what makes our Fertile Mulch stand out? Unlike traditional bark mulches – which are bulky and often slow to break down – ours is made from fully-composted horse manure and beautifully-fine wood shavings. That means it’s fiable and richer than other products: absolutely packed with nutrients and minerals. It doesn’t just sit on top of the soil — it actively improves it, feeding plants and helping structure the ground underneath. AND it keeps weeds at bay so efficiently that you might need to buy more plants to keep you busier in your garden. Just saying.
Plus, it looks fantastic. That deep, dark colour gives beds a well-kept, professional appearance — whether it’s a rambling country garden or a smart London terrace.
Wrapping Your Garden Up for Winter
Jeannette, our brilliant Commercial Manager (and an avid gardener herself — not to mention wife to Equigrow’s founder, Adrian, and mum to farmer Ben), puts it perfectly:
“Mulching your garden is like wrapping it up in a lovely thick winter duvet to keep it snug over winter while it prepares for spring.”
And she’s absolutely right. Laying down a generous layer of Fertile Mulch in autumn or winter gives your beds the protection they need to rest, regenerate, and spring back to life when the warmer weather arrives.
Who’s Using Fertile Mulch?
From beginner gardeners just starting out with raised beds to landscapers tackling large-scale projects, our Fertile Mulch has become a staple. Garden designers love the clean finish and soil health benefits. Allotment holders tell us it transforms their beds. Even seasoned horticulturists come back to us year after year.
And for anyone wondering where to start with garden improvement this season — mulching is one of the simplest, most effective things you can do. Especially with a mulch this good.

We believe great gardening starts with great soil — and Fertile Mulch is one of the easiest ways to improve yours. Whether you’re prepping for spring, giving your borders a makeover, or just want fewer weeds and happier plants, you won’t regret giving it a go.
